Specifications
The economical answer for replacing older electronic ignitions and point systems in most Chev or 351W Ford V8 engines. Similar to our ChevProMarine high performance ignition distributors with a few features changed to lower the price by about $30! See particulars in our full description area. PARTS AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE AT YOUR LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE!
The Cruiser series ignition distributor is basically as sound as our Pro series except the aluminum case is unpolished and the coil puts out only about 30,000 volts.(which is about double what your standard coil produces!) . (Photos are of our Pro series) Our normal 6-month limited warranty for the Cruiser series will be extended to a full year with the purchase of our new 8.5mm spiral core red silicone jacketed spark plug wire set at time of purchase. (add $89.97) These have been proven with this unit to deliver full firing to the plug and are highly recommended.
INSTALLATION PROBLEMS: A few boat manufacturers have oil pressure senders and shift cables running directly past the distributor. Various brass fittings solve the sender issue, and Teleflex (or you) must modify your shift/throttle cable bracket mounts to allow our 1" larger total diameter distributor to be used. Being able to legally use our distributor more than offsets these minor one-time obstacles!
The limited warranty covers mechanical functions and not tune-up items such as cap, rotor, and other electrical components which are available separately.
NOTE: This is a genuine marine distributor! The difference between auto and marine is that the case must be vented and screened rather than the cap! This is done to prevent ignition sparks in your engine room. Yourinsurance is worthless if you run automotive parts on a marine engine! If you forget your drain plug, have your steering wheel stolen or some unrelated circumstance, and your insurance inspector finds automotive items in place of marine, not covered! Marine distributors have no vacuum canister, and have a different advance curve suited best for marine performance AND economy. There are 5 other items on gas powered marine engines that require USCG approval. Do you know what they are? We do!
